Awesome and creepy!
Isla Cameron - O Willow Waly (via The Innocents, 1961)
George Auric’s haunting score for The Innocents was a significant contributor to the film’s eerie & spooky atmosphere. The most well-known piece was Auric’s rather beautifully creepy adaptation of the English folksong O Willow Waly, sung by Isla Cameron imitating the voice of a child. The song is first heard over The Innocents famous opening credits sequence, which is viewable here.
Lyrics:
We lay my love and I, beneath the weeping willow. But now alone I lie and weep beside the tree. Singing “Oh willow waly” by the tree that weeps with me.
Singing “Oh willow waly” till my lover return to me. We lay my love and I beneath the weeping willow. A broken heart have I. Oh willow I die, oh willow I die…
